Becoming A Jack Of All Trades 015 – The End

September 2026 marks the end of this project for me. A couple of things happened this month that made me decide stop writing about it. First was that the recycling system in Quebec for bottles & cans made a change whereby you have to take cans & bottles to designated recycling centers to be processed and refunded (an APP on your phone is also required to receive payment). Before you could take them to a return point (participating grocery stores, corner stores etc.) and just put them in a machine, get a receipt and exchange that at the counter for cash. Now the closest recycling center to me is about 15 minutes by car, 25 minutes by bike or 60 minutes walking (one way). I always did canning because I could easily incorporate it into things I was already doing like walking or doing errands. I had a grocery store that took returns about 5 minutes walking from my house as well. Anyway all it boils down to is that canning has now turned into a shit paying job not worth doing anymore.

Secondly, this whole BAJOAT project I feel had become aimless and basically amounted to me writing about what I made during a month and what I purchased. It’s fine for what it was but it certainly didn’t mesh with the original intent which was to record what I was working on.

For posterity I’ll quickly post what would have been my income and what I had purchased for September 2026.

My canning earnings of $18.12 for September 2026
Ratchet/Nutdriver set from Goodwill for $3.50
Makita Drill case from Goodwill for $5.25
Bonus free Makita Drill battery and unrelated battery charger that came with case
Drill is untested and battery is probably dead but free is free
Mastercraft Maximum Digital Impract Wrench from Goodwill for $24.75
I would not trust the digital readout for accurate torque numbers but it’s fine for removing bolts.

Despite the project coming to an end I still discovered that I enjoy doing DIY type stuff and if you had asked me a year ago I would have laughed at that. What comes next? I don’t know. Until next time.
