August zipped by and marked the end of my semi-vacation. I’m a bit sad as this summer has been one of my favorites despite all the negativity that was going on around me. I did a small amount of canning in August but managed to bring in $26.10 despite that. There’s a couple of new canners in my neck of the woods and funnily enough I even got threatened taking out my own recycling by a woman claiming it was her “territory”. I used to get annoyed by other canners but I’ve simply stopped caring at this point. It’s all trash so nothing to get worked up about.
I sold the majority of my trash picked inventory on Ebay this month.
A Jeep branded pouch for an Owner’s Manual netted me $7.70.
Instructions & a sticker for an old Intel CORE i7 processor netted me $2.51.
Asus branded motherboard connectors netted me $4.89.
3 Corsair branded fan/power supply empty bags netted me $15.22.
A French Windows 7 OEM installation disc (no registration key) netted me $4.94.
I also held a garage sale for the rest of the trash picked items that I had accumulated over the year that couldn’t be sold on Ebay (also mixed with stuff of my own and my mom’s). I tried to keep track of the actual “trash” stuff that sold as best I could which included: 2 camping chairs, a pair of Nike running shoes that I had found in a dumpster and cleaned but still smelled like one, a new in box digital converter for a TV, a mechanical kitchen scale and various porcelain ramekins. All that netted me $40. Everything else I sold went to my mom. In the end we ended up donating what didn’t sell (like 15 packed solid grocery/garbage bags) to a local charity that picked them up. It feels good to get rid of junk.
The Tools
With all the money I made you would think I would be cognizant to keep money around for leaner months but no. I was spendy and impulsive and bought a lot of stuff in August.
The first thing I bought was a pack of novelty carpenter pencils at a garage sale for $1.00. The pack had 2 types (4 each) for a total of 8 pencils and they’re now listed individually on Ebay. If they sell they sell and if they don’t I have some pencils I can use.
The second thing I bought was a Mastercraft 6 Inch Digital Caliper from a Goodwill store for $2.50. The battery inside the caliper was bad but it had another in the case which worked so I didn’t even have to buy a replacement in the end.
The third thing I bought was a 25 inch Ryobi branded tool bag from a thrift store for $12.00. I’m starting to get a lot of tools so throwing everything in that cleans things up a bit.
The fourth thing I bought also from a Goodwill store was a ULine magnetic utility light for $5.75. Lights are always useful when working on anything.
The fifth thing I bought was a complete impulse purchase again at a goodwill store. For $25.75 I got a Dewalt Drill (Model DCD771) with a good battery and charger. I don’t need another drill but I couldn’t pass it up for the price because it was working (along with the battery) and was in decent condition. Plus Dewalt is a fancy brand name and I don’t have any fancy brand name drills!
The sixth thing I bought also from a goodwill was a score and a gut punch at the same time. It was a score because I found a Maximum (Canadian Tire brand) water resistant case and it was filled with wrenches for $5.75. Most were Husky branded SAE stuff but mixed in were some Gearwrench ratcheting in MM. The gut punch is that I of course bought a whole set of cheap Indian wrenches last month from Amazon. My timing is as good as ever.
The last things I bought were because I went to a home depot store that I hadn’t been to and picked up some sale/clearance items. A 5 pack of Husky wrenches/pliers for $20.57, 2 sets of Ryobi tile bits for $4.60 and 2 sets of Ryobi 1 inch drill bits in cases for $7.48.
Free Stuff
One of my Mom’s clients knew we were having a garage sale and dropped off some stuff she was getting rid of for us to sell. By the end of the day it didn’t so my mom ended up giving it to me which is great. There was a small Stanley toolbox filled with tools, 2 solar powered lights (working), a stud finder and a Chinese multitool. I assume the stud finder is not great but it had a working 9V battery which was a plus.

Summary
