November 2024 Goal Progress (New Mobile Phone)

I made steady progress in November towards my new phone. I continued doing various menial tasks to raise money.

Microsoft Rewards

I made $15 doing Microsoft Rewards in November. The $0.12 remainder was part of an old balance that was refunded to my account for an Amazon Return. Amazon is annoying sometimes as they default to taking your gift card amount to pay for orders even if you specifically indicate you would rather pay some other way. I don’t know if this has been anyone else’s experience but it has been mine for whatever reason. I am not a big fan of Amazon. The next time I order something from Amazon I’m just going to pay for it with the GC balance and transfer the amount to cash. I don’t like carrying gift card balances anyway.

Swagbucks

I can’t even remember any of the surveys I completed through Swagbucks in November. My brain just goes into stasis mode and I think about other things while completing them. I guess is this is my version of “I’m not gay, but $20 is $20.”

Scavenging/Canning

November brought the cold and short days (it was dark by 4:30 PM usually). This does not lend itself to festivities outdoors so my haul of cans was lower. That being said I did manage to pick up $2 worth of cans throughout the month. I even managed to snap a low quality picture of one of my return trips to the grocery store with my dumb phone’s camera!

Summary

In November I raised $77.13 which brings me to about $38% of my total goal. I’m still trending below what I need to reach my goal by the end of March but not by much.

And as a side note I looked into all the various “Black Friday” offers from the mobile companies in Canada. Many of them were offering free financed Pixel 8a or Samsung S24 FE’s this “Black Friday”. Unfortunately once I did the math every offer was more expensive that just saving for the phone myself. Even the best purported deal I read that someone got was about double what I pay for mobile costs per year. I really had hoped that I would be able to get a phone this way but I’m poor not stupid. I’m not throwing money into depreciating electronics and taking on a higher bill just to have the newest gadget. Will I turn out to be the fool in the end? Maybe and it wouldn’t be the first time either but we shall see.
