October 2024 Goal Progress (New Mobile Phone)

I made some progress towards saving for a new mobile phone in October. It started slowly as I had to figure out how I was going to raise the money in the first place and then get to actually doing it. Since I figured out that “Beer Money” tasks were my best option right now that’s what I did.

Microsoft Rewards

I managed to make $10 in Amazon Gift Cards with Microsoft Rewards. I consider Microsoft Rewards to be the easiest thing to do. It’s also alas not very rewarding but it’s better than nothing.

Swagbucks

Swagbucks was initially overwhelming but I became acclimated over a week or so. The bulk of my time and effort went into doing surveys on Swagbucks. They are by in large mindless endeavors but I can do them with bits and chunks of spare time I often have throughout the day. To be transparent $2.23 of the Paypal balance was already in the account (I had forgotten about it) and it came from Microsoft Receipts before they discontinued the service in Canada.

Scavenging/Canning

An avenue I hadn’t really considered was collecting cans. I walk to do errands and sometimes just for enjoyment with my mom. I often pick up litter to throw it in garbage cans (because who else is going to do it if not me?) and I come across cans/bottles that can be turned into money at the grocery store nearest to my home. I make it a habit now to have an empty reusable bag with me when I’m on walks now for this purpose. This way of raising money is the most variable of the things I do and I doubt I will be able to accumulate as much when winter arrives in earnest. October has been mild in Quebec City and that translates to lots of after hour drinking and eventually discarding that I can take advantage of. Over the course of the month I made $4.

Summary

In October I raised $76.23 or about 19% of my total goal. That’s a little bit less than the required 20% I need to have accumulated by March 2025 but at least it’s on track.
